Creating The Perfect Baby Seat
The development of any new product let alone a baby seat involves an extensive amount of work and research. However, the best ideas are the ones that are created to provide a real-life solution.
When product designer Robin was presented with his two gorgeous granddaughters, Emily and Pippa in the space of just three weeks he was thrilled to bits. Before long his two new bundles of joy were keen to start sitting up and interacting with everything around them. Robin wanted to be able to sit and interact with them at their own level and found products such as highchairs and prams bulky and unsatisfactory for his needs.
With a background in product design, Robin set about developing his solution, envisioning a floor based baby seat which provided safety, support and comfort.
The seat would be manufactured from a material called ARPRO® with which he was already familiar, a material which is trusted for use in automotive safety, is non-toxic, has excellent insulation properties, is recyclable and kind to baby.
After a number of prototypes and many changes the resulting seat did everything Robin wanted it to and more. The seat was ergonomically designed to provide posture support had leg protection and a wide base to help prevent tipping. The in-built tray (dishwasher safe) helped to stop baby falling out and was ideal for feeding, playtime and reading.
Robin found Emily and Pippa adored using the seat, and he loved being able to interact with them on a similar level. After many names were bounced around the seat became known as the Cushi Tush baby seat and was officially born in 2006.
Fully safety tested, the seat is used in a number of paediatric wards across the UK. Robin is always happy to hear that other parents and grandparents are finding it as essential as he did.
Cushi Tush continues to be an advocate of UK manufacturing with the range now including a Lil’ Cushi Tush toy seat and the Cushi Therm bottle insulator. All of the Cushi Tush product range is manufactured in the UK at Spennymoor, County Durham.
